On 11th November Poland celebrates National Independence Day.
It is a public holiday to commemorate the anniversary of regaining independence after 123 years of partitions between Prussia, Russia and Austria. Polish Independence Day is connected with general Józef Piłsudski. 11th November is the day the Regency Council appointed him Commander-in-Chief of Polish forces. The Indepence Day was constituted in1937 and was a national holiday in the inter-war Poland. After the World War II the holiday was repudiated. In 1989 the 11th November was re-established as the National Independence Day.
