It is at 2.30 am so I will not watch the final ceromony, but I wanted to say that our most successful girl Martina Sabliková will be carrying the Czech flag. We have won two gold medals, and four bronz medals. Not bad. Not bad at all.
1st March in Bulgaria - Happy Baba Marta! Честита Баба Марта!
The Bulgarian legend associated with Martenitza
It was long time ago in year 681. Khan Asparuh, the man who established our country, was coming towards our land and stopped near the Danube River. He needed some news about his mother and sister, who were on the other bank of the river.
Khan Asparuh decided to send a message with a swallow. His warriors tied the message with the white wool.
During the flight the swallow has got hurt and the blood dropped onto the wool. That’s how his mother and sister got the message – in red and white.
The great tradition began. It was 1st March. And now every year on this day we wear martenitza in red and white, because these colours are symbols for health, happiness and prosperity.

1st of March in Greece
The ancient Greeks used to celebrate the beginning of the most beautiful season of the year, the spring!
In modern Greece there are many habits related to the beginning of the spring. Their aim is to expel the winter, because it is related to “evil”.
The first day of March the kids use to make bracelets from white and red cotton thread, which is called “martis”, to beware of the intense sunlight. These bracelets use to keep with them till the morning of the Easter Sunday. Then, they use to hang them on a rose tree and they are waiting to see the first swallow, which is spring's messager.

International Frederic Chopin Year
2010 is celebrated as The International Frederic chopin Year to commemorate the 200th anniversay of his birthday. In fact, two dates are given when talking about Chopin's birthday: 22 February and 1 March (Chopon himself gave the latter as his birthdate but a document was found in a parish church which cites 22 February as the date of his birth). Chopin was a composer and a virtuoso pianist - one of the great masters of Romantic music.
